Federer wins 4th consecutive US open title!!

I guess Federer wanted to complete the match as soon as possible to make all the south east Asia fans happy! The match started at 2 in the morning[IST]!! And i bet all Federer would hav watched it late night.

Here's the review of the thrilling Finals!

Roger Federer might soon own every record in the sport, but he put a huge one on the board by winning the 2007 US Open title with a dramatic and hard-fought, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-4 victory over Serb Novak Djokovic that might not be broken this century: going back-to-back-to-back-to-back at Wimbledon and the US Open four consecutive times.

But leave it to Federer, the cool-handed Swiss, who might constantly look self-assured but, when pushed to the wall, responds like an alley cat.

Djokovic held five set points against the great Swiss in the first set and another two in the second, but the 20-year-old played nervously, while Federer knew that, if he could ride the upstart's waves, his chances would come, too.

They did, and Federer cashed in, winning his 12th Grand Slam title.

Throughout the match, Djokovic matched Federer off the ground, served just as effectively and even pushed him off the court. But Federer never allowed the Serbian to get completely comfortable, as he hammered his forehand and did a fine job with his approach shots and closing out points at the net.

The Serbian broke Federer to 6-5 in the first set when the Swiss missed a forehand. It appeared that Djokovic would seize the momentum and race away in to the second set, but, admittedly, he began to rush.

Djokovic defaulted and then double faulted to hand the break back to 6-6.

In the tiebreaker, Djokovic fell apart at 3-3, when he double-faulted, erred on a backhand and then saw Federer crush a service winner. Federer committed a forehand error on his first set point, but Djokovic then double-faulted to hand him the set.

Djokovic put himself in a prime position again in the second set, when with Federer serving at 6-5, he held another two set points. Federer ripped a stunning 126-mph ace on the first one, but on the second, Djokovic missed a forehand winner by a millimeter. He challenged the call, but was turned back. None of his challenges were correct but federer's every challenge was correct!!

Federer put it into fifth gear in the tiebreaker, contesting one of his most impressive sudden death's ever.He won the tie breaker 7-2.

Djokovic courageously battled throughout the third set and even held three break points in the fifth game, but the writing was clearly on the wall.He served to stay in the match at 4-5, but on the final point of the contest, his attempt at a drop shot fell lazily into the net.

After winning the match, Federer slid to his knees and roared.

With his 12th Grand Slam title, Federer passed Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver and tied Roy Emerson. Next up is American Pete Sampras, with 14. By this time next year, Federer might have already tied that mark and could go into Flushing Meadows looking to break it.

Semifinals

Date: Sept 8th

Federer beat Nikolay Davydenko

7-5 6-1 7-5

Coming into this match Federer had never lost to Davydenko. He had an amazing 9-0 record against him!!

But Nikolay was a tough customer to beat. Nikolay started his match by breaking Federer in his 1st game! When everyone was thinking about an upset, Federer broke Nikolay in the 5th game. Federer then broke Nikolay again at 5-6 to take the set 7-5. He had too many unforced errors in the 1st game itself. Federer eased thro the 2nd round comfortably winning it by 6-1. He had too many winners & less unforced errors. In the 3rd set, Roger played pathetic tennis to say the least. He was broken thrice in the set which was an uncharacteristic Federer game! But Roger proved everyone why he is the top seed by breaking Nikolay thrice!! After that Nikolay couldn’t gather his shots around & eventually lost the set 5-7. This was Federer’s 26th consecutive US open triumphs! He would be really unhappy with his game. He faces 20 year old Serbian Novak Djokovic who had beaten him in the AMS Canada tournament held in August.

Quarterfinals!!

Quarterfinals

Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick for d 10th consecutive time to reach the semi finals 7-6 7-6 6-2 without getting broken even once.

Match Summary:

Federer (SUI) converted 61% of his 1st serves whereas Roddick (USA) converted 71%.

Federer hit an unprecedented 15 aces against Andy’s 14 which were far less than what I expected.

Break Point Conversions 2 of 4 = 50 % for Federer. & 0 of 1 = 0 % for Roddick!

4th Round Match...

Round 4

Date: Sept 4[Night match]

Federer beat Lopez

3-6 6-4 6-1 6-4

After losing the 1st set it looked as though Roger Federer was finally in trouble. But like he has done so many times in the past, the top seed and heavy favorite rapidly battled his way out of trouble, coming back from a one set deficit then digging out of triple break point early in the third set en route to a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 victory over big-serving lefty Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round.

Competing against a left-hander other than Rafael Nadal for the very first time since Roland Garros in 2006, Federer seemed out-of-sorts in the first set, losing his serve early and being unable to break back. For the third time in the pair's five meetings Lopez took a set, although the end result would be the same as their first four meetings, which were all won by Federer.

The two remained on serve through the first nine games of the second set, but a screaming backhand passing shot from Federer with Lopez serving 4-5 would bring up set point, then a high backhand volley into the net from the Spaniard sealed the second set for the Swiss.

The Lopez threat remained prominent in the opening game of the third set, as he brought about triple break point on Federer's serve. But that's when the streak began - the three-time defending champion saved all three, and would eventually go on a streak of 35 straight points on serve, which included seven consecutive love service holds. During that stretch he broke the Lopez serve three more times. He won the final two points of the match to end with 37 of his last 38 service points won.
Federer has now won 24 consecutive matches at this tournament, winning it three years running between 2004 and 2006, and now moving into the quarterfinals this year. He is trying to become the first man in the Open Era to win four straight.

3 Round Match.....

ROUND 3

Date: Sept 2

Roger Federer d. John Isner

6-7(4) 6-2 6-4 6-2

I can’t say that with certainty just yet, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised each time I’ve watched the mellow American giant play. I thought his nerves would affect him, but that didn’t appear to be the case; Isner seems terminally even-keel and positive. The natural hit-and-miss quality of his game may keep him from getting testy when things go bad—errors are just part of the game when you’re a 6-foot-9 crush-and-rusher.

Isner has the serve, of course, but he has a very heavy and penetrating forehand when he times it right and surprising feel on his flicky two-handed backhand; he makes a lot of shots you think he should miss given his generally ungainly form. Isner is also adept at blocking returns back and smart enough to know that his size gives him a head start at the net, so he might as well get in there. On the minus side, the American takes a while to unfold his long body on his forehand, often catching it a second late and sending it long. At 3-3 in the third, he hit three forehands just over the baseline and was broken. And defense? Let’s just say it isn’t Isner’s specialty. As I’ve said, he struggles to track down anything tailing away from him to his right, and his answer when he’s on the run is pretty much to grip and rip. Still, a few months after finishing a four-year college career, he took a set from Roger Federer in the third round of the U.S. Open. That's not something that happens in tennis anymore. 35 service points won in-a-row by Federer during the 3rd and 4th sets. Truly amazing!!

2nd Round Match....

ROUND 2

Roger Federer played Chilean Paul Capdeville, ranked 120, in the 2nd Round of the US Open.

Date: Aug 30[Night Match]

Federer beat Paul Capdeville

6-1, 6-4, 6-4

Roger Federer put a little vogue into the men's game during his second-round victory over Paul Capdeville, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, but his game out-styled his striking all-black ensemble that included shorts, shirt, head band, wrist band, kit, monogrammed shoes and black socks pulled inexplicably high. He was looking fabulous. The 120th ranked player had no answers to Roger’s forehand. All in all, Roger played a perfect game!

Federer's Run at the US open!

1st round

Date: August 28

R. Federer beat Scoville Jenkins

6-3, 6-2, 6-4

The match was one of the most boring matches of Federer in recent times.

There was no FEDERER MOMENT in the entire match.

Even though he won the match. I will rate this match far inferior to the match he played with Novak djokovic in Montreal, even though he lost that match.

And seriously, Federer in recent times is concerned more with winning than his overall game. Federer’s game was more of a power game than wristy magical game. All in all it was a slow start to the US open!

I simply ADORE Roger Federer. I still feel He’s d best after Rod Laver & Pete Sampras. He’s the KING of Grass n Hard court n I still believe that he can one day win the FRENCH open. I love the Wimbledon! D ball boys n ball girls, the green surface, the white clothing are just breath-taking.

Football is my 2nd BEST game! My favorite teams are Italy & Manchester United. I love to discuss about the history of Man U with my best friend Manjunath a.k.a. MC! we have great fun discussing about d glory days of Man U, though my other friends hate to listen about it!!

Finally, I love the Indian cricket team and I am an ardent Rahul Dravid fan. I still feel he’s the best Cricketer India has ever produced. His techniques are just flawless!! He's the best example for youngsters.
